Hi,

I'm running a HP N54L server at home with Vmware ESXI now, but i would like to use ZFSGuru.
BUT, i need the capability to use VM's on the same server (small VM's).
Is it possible to install proxmox with Zfsguru on top? Or is this a bad idea?

I like to hear your ideas :)

Regards,

id suggest two computers: one for running esxi and one for zfsguru.

However you can choose to do an all-in-one if you really want to. There are lots of articles but here is the basic high level view:
install esxi on a small disk (or raid 1 if you can do that in hardware)
make a vm for zfsguru
add all your big disks as rdm to the vm
boot zfsguru, install, create pool, make nfs share
back in esxi land, mount the nfs share (yes, the one from inside the vm)

Its kinda scary but the performance can be awesome since the traffic never leaves out the physical nic. Fun for playing but id never do it in production
