How long before something like this would work for a ZFS server?

Nice board.

And why should it not work already? It is a generic Intel haswell BGA chip with 80-series PCH-chipset. So just the most modern Intel desktop stuff that is available now. It should work fine for ZFSguru. :)

Very nice as well, dual gigabit and PCIe expansion ability. Just hope it can be cooled passively without taking too much space.

But embedded; i have AMD geode which is 32-bit x86 and it runs ZFSguru with ZFS. I do not use it for storage/NAS but for tasks as firewall and development stuff. It consumes only 1,8 watt on the wall socket in idle, and perhaps 5W when stressed. The CPU has no heatsink/fan whatsoever.

combine it with a drive enclosure, or just put it in a case?
