That most likely has an LSI 1068E SAS chip which works perfectly. The "UIO" suggests that it has a non-standard bracket meaning you would need to remove it or modify it in order to fit normal casings.

The controller may be shipped in IR mode (Integrated RAID) firmware. You're advised to flash it with IT mode firmware, provided by LSI. This will remove the RAID functionality and make it a 100% non-RAID controller or HBA.

Thank you for your information

I have located the following information regarding the IT driver (versus IR driver)

http://www.supermicro.com/products/accessories/addon/AOC-USAS-L8i.cfm

ftp://ftp.supermicro.com/driver/SAS/LSI/1064_1068/IT/Driver/

ftp://ftp.supermicro.com/driver/SAS/LSI/1064_1068/IT/MSM/

User guide - http://www.supermicro.com/manuals/other/AOC-USAS-L8i.pdf

IT Mode (Initiator and Target Mode): This is the default mode for the
AOC-USAS-L8i Add-on Card. The maximum support for this mode is up to 122 hard
disk drives under expander topology. This mode does not support RAID.
This mode requires an IT mode firmware flash to the BIOS and an IT mode driver
installation to the OS.

Chapter 3 discusses the IT mode in further detail
